Bangladesh CA urge rotations to concentrate rehab programmes in Sidr hit areas

Dhaka : Chief Adviser of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed Sunday urged Rotarians to concentrate their rehabilitation programmes especially in ‘Sidr’ hit areas, instead of scattered way, to give maximum benefit to people.

The role of Rotarians in rehabilitation of cyclone-ravaged people in southern region of the country is laudable, he added.

The Chief Adviser said this while World President of Rotary International Wilfred J Wilkinson paid a courtesy call on him at his office here.

Welcoming the Rotary leader, the Chief Adviser said he (Wilfred J Wilkinson) now saw for himself how the resilient people of Bangladesh successfully tackled two floods and one severe cyclone last year.

Referring to the commitment of the Rotarians to community service, Dr Fakhruddin said their values and ethical standard motivate people towards serving humanity.

Pointing to gradual progress made by the country in socio-economic arena, the Chief Adviser said Bangladesh would be a mid-income country soon, as people in different sectors are working skillfully.

He said food production in the country became triple by last few decades despite various natural calamities.

Wilfred J Wilkinson said Rotary International is now working in 170 countries across the world and serving humanity irrespective of race, creed and colour.

Rotarians in Bangladesh will continue their services to the distressed people in the time of need, he added.

He said Bangladeshis are hard working at home and abroad and those who are living in Canada are also contributing to economic activities there.

Secretary to the Chief Adviser’s Office Kazi M Aminul Islam and Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim and Rotary District Governor Rafiq Ahmed Siddiq were present on the occasion.
