Baghdad : A US soldier was killed and another one wounded in the northern Iraqi province of Salahaddin, media reports said on Monday.
The Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency quoted the US military as saying one soldier was killed and another injured when a bomb targeted their patrol on Sunday.
No further details were available about the exact location of the blast, according to a report of DPA.
The death brings the total number of US soldiers killed since the US invasion of Iraq to 4,079. A total of 14 soldiers were killed since May.
Separately, a spokesman from Iraq’s Interior Ministry Abdul-Karim Khalaf told VOI that a total of 56 suspected terrorists were arrested in a security offensive launched by the government in the northern city of Mosul.
Khalaf said that the arrests took place in the areas of Baaj, Jaghayfa and Markeb al-Tayr in western Mosul.
He added that Iraqi forces, backed by US helicopters, found rockets and weapons in the same areas.
