Court slaps fine of Rs.50,000 on water agency

New Delhi : The Delhi High court Tuesday slapped a fine of Rs.50,000 on Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for constructing an office in a public park and cutting several trees for it.

Justice Kailash Gambhir ordered the DJB to pay the fine to the Residents Welfare Association of R-Block, New Friends Colony, and also asked it to demolish the office within one week.

Petitioner Dheeraj Narang, a resident of the colony, approached the court after the DJB constructed its office and destroyed trees in the park.

The court directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to oversee the demolition of the DJB’s office and if the agency does not do it on its own, then after three days the ciic body should demolish the structure.
