According to the poll, which involved 1300 people aged more than 18 years old, only 10.4 percent of the surveyed people believed that Israel will abide by the lull that Egypt is trying to achieve.

The survey, made by al-Najah University between May 15 and May 17, included 800 people in the Gaza Strip and 500 people in the West Bank. Its margin of error was plus or minus 3 percent.

Hamas and the Palestinian factions have accepted the Egyptian lull initiative and now are waiting to hear from Egypt about the Israeli response.

The poll also tackled the political developments in the Palestinian territories, the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the feud between Hamas and Fatah.

The result is that 24.4 percent of the Palestinians blamed Hamas on the continuation of the internal divisions while 14 percent blamed President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement.

Hamas ousted Fatah from the Gaza Strip in June and seized power in the territory. Abbas then fired the Hamas-led government and formed another Western-backed administration based in the West Bank.

About 50 percent of the Palestinians supported the performance of the caretaker government led by Salam Fayyad, while 32.1 percent agreed with the deposed government of Hamas led by Ismail Haneya.

As for the elections, 80.7 percent of the surveyed said they will participate in the next parliamentary elections, and 40.6 percent of them will vote for Fatah and 20 percent will vote for Hamas.

Meanwhile, 36.3 percent of the sample believed that President Abbas will succeed in creating a Palestinian statehood via negotiations, while 41.2 percent said they will be able to establish the statehood on the territories which were occupied by Israel in 1967.
