Beirut : The Lebanese are finally breathing at ease after their majority and opposition representatives announced an accord reached in the six-day Doha-sponsored national dialogue.
In remarks to KUNA, Taleb Salloum said he was overjoyed over the accord, “after the spark of civil war cost hundreds of lives and left many others injured.”
“Such agreement would not have been possible without Arab, and more specifically Qatari, support and effort to surmount all obstacles and impediments,” he noted.
Another citizen, Um Ismail, said she thinks the accord would help restore solidarity and union among the Lebanese despite the wound caused by recent developments and tensions.
“Lebanon is the homeland of all Lebanese, and no party can overshadow the other; we are a nation of ethnic and sectarian co-existence.” Meanwhile, businessman Abed Al-Bisani noted he expects boom in the market after the majority and the opposition reached an accord.
“The country would thrive again, and Arabs may again seek a prosperous and pleasant summer in their second home.” May Eitani on her part stressed she was immensely pleased with the feat of securing the accord at such a critical time.
Calling this “a historical day,” she said the agreement would guarantee peaceful co-existence and civil stability.
The escalation of tension had recently recalled to mind the 1975-1990 civil war, which left over 140,000 people dead and 200,000 injured, in addition to over 17,000 who went missing.
