Khartoum, Sudan : The Sudanese army commander in the volatile region of Abyei says he lost at least 22 soldiers in Tuesday’s clashes with former southern rebels.
Brig. Gen. Muntasser Sabil Adam, commander of government forces in Abyei, told The Associated Press that his soldiers repelled the attacking southern forces in a six hour battle Tuesday in which he lost 22 soldiers.
On Wednesday the town of Abyei was calm, he said, and his forces still in control.
