New Delhi : In view of the increasing burden on the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), the cabinet Thursday approved an additional 117 senior-level posts in in the Army Medical Corps, Army Dental Corps and Army Medical Corps (Non-technical).
“Out of the 117 posts, 100 will be upgraded in the Army Medical Corps. These include three of lieutenant general and equivalent rank, 15 of major general and equivalent rank, and 82 of brigadier and equivalent rank,” a defence ministry official here said.
Sixteen posts will be upgraded in the Army Dental Corps. They include three of major general and equivalent rank, nine of brigadier and equivalent rank and four of colonel and equivalent rank.
One post in the Army Medical Corps (Non-technical) will be upgraded to brigadier and equivalent rank.
“The cabinet also gave its nod for changing the ratio between permanent commission and short service commission officers in the three corps to 60:40,” the official said.
Thursday’s decision follows the restructuring done in the first phase, in which 334 posts were upgraded.
“The decision also comes in the wake of significant changes in the role and functioning of the AFMS on account of increase in the total clientele, rapid modernization of medical technology, growth of a large number of super-specialty disciplines, preparedness for Nuclear Biological and Chemical disasters, deployment to foreign countries and UN missions,” the official added.
The decision will also help improve promotional avenues of the highly qualified professionals and to retain trained hands who are superseded for want of vacancies and on supersession ask for premature retirement.
