New Delhi : Residents of the capital woke up to a pleasant Saturday morning as the sky was largely overcast and breeze cool. But by afternoon, the sharp sun and humid air put paid to any hopes of Delhiites of pleasant outings.
For the cricket buffs this was a welcome turn though, as the hot sun helped dry the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium outfield in time for a crucial Indian Premier League match in the evening.
In the National Capital Region, comprising nearby areas in the adjoining states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, however, the wet spell of earlier days continued, bringing scattered rains and thundershowers.
Going by the cyclonic weather condition in Jammu and Kashmir, which brought imprerssive showers and rains in the region, more rainfall could be expected in several places in the north and in the Indo-Gangetic plains Sunday and Monday, the weather office said.
The meteorological department in its evening bulletin, in fact, forecast rains and thundershowers in a large geographical swathe stretching from the hills of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand to the northern plains of western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana right up to Bihar.
Saturday’s maximum temperature in Delhi was 33.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 23.6 degrees Celsius. There was no rainfall in the city Saturday.
A cool weather prevailed in most parts of the country, as rains and thundershowers continued in the north-east, south and also in parts of central India.
The day’s highest maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nagpur in Maharashtra.
West Bengal, Sikkim, eastern Uttar Pradesh, north Orissa, Bihar, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Kerala and the Lakshadweep Islands will receive rains and thundershowers untill Tuesday, the weatherman said.
Thudershowers are also expected in north and south Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, eastern and western Rajasthan, Goa and southern Maharashtra.
