Chennai : Former Kerala minister P.J. Joseph, accused of molesting a television anchor, was Saturday granted bail by a judicial magistrate here.
Actress and TV anchor Lakshmi Gopakumar accused Joseph of molesting her on board a flight from Kochi to Chennai in 2006. In October 2006, the Tamil Nadu police registered a case under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1988, against him.
Joseph is the chairman of Kerala-Congress (Joseph) and an ally of the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala.
Joseph’s case is being heard at the Alandur Judicial Magistrate N. Ramanathan’s court.
The court granted the Kerala leader bail on two sureties. The court asked him to appear before it again June 2.
Meanwhile, Joseph has filed a petition before the court seeking to dispense with his personal appearance. This petition will also be heard June 2.
