Dhaka : One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a microbus gas-cylinder explosion Saturday in Bangladesh’s Narayanganj district, 20 km southeast of capital Dhaka.
Private news agency UNB reported that the engine of a microbus, which was parking on the road, caught fire and was spewing smoke. Local people rushed there to douse the fire. At one stage, the gas cylinder of the microbus exploded, leaving one person dead on the spot.
The gas explosion at 2 p.m. (0800 GMT) also left 20 other people injured.
The fireball fell on a go down of a nearby garment factory in the blast, leaving a lot of garments burnt.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Ten of the injured were sent to Dhaka in critical condition while the rest given first aid.
The microbus driver and its owner escaped unhurt as they got down from the vehicle as soon as the engine caught fire.
