Asean-UN cyclone relief conference opens in Myanmar

Yangon : An international conference co-organised by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the UN opened here Sunday to seek more financial aid for the cyclone affected people in Myanmar.

Around 360 delegates from 52 countries, including Myanmar, are participating in the conference.

Myanmar Prime Minister General Thein Sein, Asean Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi are some of the high-profile delegates attending the conference in Sedona Hotel.

UN agencies, international financial institutions and international non-governmental organisations are also participating.
