New Delhi : The Congress party was at a loss to explain its defeat in the Karnataka assembly elections.
“We do not know how we lost, after all that (former chief minister) S.M. Krishna had done for the industrialization of Karnataka,” Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told IANS.
Vayalar Ravi was part of a three-member committee in charge of the Karnataka elections. “We will analyse the results, the reasons for our defeat and our functioning,” he said.
Denying that the Karnataka polls, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is confident of forming a government, will have any impact on the next Lok Sabha polls, he said: “The BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) factor has to be probed.”
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) partners put up a stoic face over the Congress defeat.
“Karnataka polls were fought on local issues. The mandate given is local and the outcome will not have any impact on parliamentary elections,” said Devendra Prasad Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP.
