New Delhi : Lieutenant General Arvinder Singh Lamba Monday assumed command of the Bhopal-based 21 Corps, one of the three premier strike corps of the Indian Army.
Commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in June 1971, the officer is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, a graduate of the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow, and attended the prestigious RCDS course at the Britain’s Royal College of Defence Studies.
Lamba commanded a mountain brigade in Nagaland, and an infantry division on the western border during Operation Parakram after India mobilised troops in the wake of the 2001 attack on parliament. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2006.
“The general’s tenures on staff and instructional appointments and at the Army Headquarters are an enviable record,” a defence ministry statement said Monday.
They include brigadier general staff of a corps, director (Operational Logistics), deputy director general of the Strategic Planning Group in the Perspective Planning Directorate and additional director general (Operational Logistics) at Army Headquarters.
“The officer’s operational experience is indeed vast and includes participation in the 1971 India-Pakistan war in the eastern theatre and several exposures to counter-insurgency operations within and outside India,” the statement said.
