New Delhi : Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said during his recent visit to Pakistan, he discussed new ideas with Pakistani leadership to build strong bilateral relations.
Talking to newsmen last night on the sidelines of a ceremony to dedicate site for building South Asian University here, he said his meeting with PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif and other leaders focused on exploring new ways to promote relations and build confidence.
Earlier, he unveiled plaque of the new site for constructing South Asian University for the students of Saarc countries.
Addressing the ceremony on the occasion, Pranab Mukherjee said the main campus of the university will be linked with campuses in Saarc countries.
He said students of Saarc countires will seek high quality education. It will also help to create harmony and cooperation among the future generation in South Asia.
The university will ensure deserving students to get affordable high quality education, he said and added Saarc countries have moved from declaratory stage to implementation stage. This project is reflected of this change, he said.
The Minister said India is committed to promoting cooperation among Saarc countries. The students coming out of this university will be a great asset for South Asia, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon said the Saarc countries endorsed the idea of this university in the last Saarc Summit. Noting that the university will benefit all Saarc countries, he hoped cooperation among Saarc countries will further grow in future.
