Kabul : Two suicide blasts in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand and southeastern Khost provinces killed at least one person and wounded several others. The first explosion took place in Khost, bordering the neighbouring Pakistan, when two suicide bombers tried to enter a foreign military base in Gurbaz district of the province. Spokesman for Khost governor Khyber Pakhtun said two people injured in the blast carried out by one of the two persons who was on foot.
His other colleague was killed in firing by policemen guarding the entrance of the military base.
Taliban militants said they were responsible for the suicide attack. Their spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid said a Jeep full of explosives was blown up by their colleague at the entrance of the foreign military base. Like the foreign troops, who confirmed the blast but did not give the casualty figures, the Taliban spokesman also did not provide the exact number of those killed and injured. Taliban militants mention more casualties among the foreign and Afghan troops than the exact number. Another suicide attack was carried out in the southern province of Helmand. However, the Taliban so far did not claim responsibility for that. Helmand police chief Mohammad Hussain Andiwal said two policemen and as many civilians were injured in the explosion.
However, another security official, who wished not to be named, said one person was killed in the blast. It is not known if the dead was a policeman or civilian.
