Mumbai : At least 15 passengers were killed and 38 injured Saturday when a bus plunged into a gorge in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, a police official said.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when the government-run bus was negotiating a steep curve on the Ghonse ghat region of the Western Ghats in Mhasla sub-district, about 150 km from here.
The injured were taken to various towns in the area for treatment, while 20 injured passengers were brought to Sion Hospital in Mumbai, the police official told IANS on phone.
Since there were many among the injured whose condition was reported to be serious, the toll is likely to go up, the official said.
The bus, belonging to the Maharasthra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), had left Thane, next to Mumbai, for Diveaghar Saturday morning.
