New Delhi : The devastating terrorist attacks occurred on Oct. 30 in India’s northeast Assam state could have been avoided, the Times of India on Monday quoted Assam Chief Minister (CM) Tarun Gogoi as saying.
The Chief Minister said that all the agencies engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the state including the army and intelligence bureau received information on Sept. 17 about possible blasts in Assam state but there was no coordination among them.
These bits of information were “not specific and not actionable”, Gogoi said, adding that it was “impossible to pinpoint the date, time location and the terrorists”.
“We are yet to reach a conclusion, but the needle of suspicion points towards insurgent groups based in Bangladesh and Pakistan,” Gogoi said.
A series of 12 blasts rocked Assam state last Thursday – five major cities in Guwahati district, three in Barpeta district, three in Kokrajhar district and one in Bongaigaon district.
The death toll has reached 79 and more than 330 people still in hospitals, according to local media.
