The jalebi was created Saturday by well-known Delhi Mistan Bhandar as part of the Shillong Autumn Festival.

“This record is for Shillong and is our humble attempt to make Shillong and the North-East shine brighter, and let the world know about our positive aspects,” proprietor of Delhi Mistan Bhandar Kailash Verma said in a statement.

He said the record making jalebi was shown on a giant screen and the process was witnessed by adjudicators approved by the Limca Book of Records – Minister of Tourism Conrad K. Sangma, Major-General K.S. Sethi and Air Vice Marshal Roy.

“The jalebi was measured in their presence and they adjudged it to be the biggest jalebi in the world,” Verma claimed. The jalebi was made by eight persons including him.
