Raipur : About 50 workers of the Congress party hailing from the Koria district of Chhattisgarh resigned Sunday in protest against the party’s decision to hand over the seat to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as a poll tie-up.
“Congress workers of Manendragarh seat are upset with the party decision. The seat is being held by the party and most importantly it is a Congress stronghold for decades,” a Congress source told IANS Sunday.
He said senior party workers have resigned after a meeting was held at Manendragarh last night. “They are still clueless what prompted the party to hand over a safe seat to NCP,” he added.
“There is a huge amount of protest against the party’s alignment with NCP in the state. Majority of workers feel that NCP deserved hardly one seat that is of Chandrapur in Janjgir district but the Congress has conceded three seats out of total 90,” he claimed.
The Congress has left Chandrapur, Manendragarh and Samri seats for NCP that has only one member in the outgoing state assembly.
