“The BJP is totally opposed to the regional tension being encouraged by the MNS. The BJP blames the Congress Party for encouraging the MNS in order to derive political advantage,” said the statement, issued following a meeting here of the BJP central parliamentary board late Friday night.

The meeting discussed the political situation arising out of statements made by the MNS and the subsequent resignation of five Janata Dal-United parliamentarians over the issue.

Janata Dal-United is BJP’s partner in the National Democratic Alliance.

“The BJP favours the dilution and elimination of inter-regional tensions being created,” the statement further said.

The party will hold discussions with its Bihar unit with this objective in mind, according to the statement.

The parliamentary board met after the resignations of the JD-U Lok Sabha MPs from Bihar earlier Friday, without consulting the BJP.

The parliamentarians have resigned as a symbolic protest against the violent attacks on north Indians spearheaded by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Maharashtra.
