Kabul : A huge explosion killed three people in Afghanistan’s souther city of Kandahar on Wednesday, police said.
The explosives were planted in a car which was parked close to an area where President Hamid Karzai’s brother Ahmad Wali Karzai was chairing a meeting.
The dead included a woman and two men, hospital sources said. Condition of majority of the injured was satisfactory, they added.
At least two dozen more people suffered injuries in one of the heaviest blast in Kanadar. The cracking sound of the explosion was heard in areas several kilomotres away from the spot.
The former stronghold of Taliban miltants, Kandahar has been witnessed to landmine blasts, suicide and rocket attacks on Afghan and foreign troops.
Investigators said it was not a suicide attack. The car was full of explosives. It may be detonated with a remote-controlled device, they believed. Witnesses say the blast also damaged several residential buildings in the area.
