New Delhi: To address the complaints pointing to some irregularity in the implementation of minority welfare schemes in Kerala, he state government has decided to have a permanent mechanism of supervision for minority welfare projects.
An 11 members committee with Paloli Mohammed Kutty, the local administration minister as its head may be transformed into a high power panel for this purpose.
The state government has already formed a minority Cell in the state secretariat and also provided it with 10 crore to start with. The Cell has very important role to play in the implementation of the welfare schemes for the minorities but it is the high power committee which will supervise and scrutinize the functioning of the Cell. It will also look to it that the recommendations of the Paloli committee are implemented.
The socio economic backwardness of Muslim girls will be the one of the core areas the committee will be focusing on. To address this issue more and more colleges and schools will be opened in the Muslim pockets.
The state government has announced to award scholarship and hostel fees to the Muslim girls who are pursuing degree, post-graduate and professional courses from the current academic year.
Scholarship amount given for a student of degree courses has been fixed at Rs.3000, for post-graduate students at Rs.4000 and for the students of professional courses at Rs.5000. Students who are staying in the government hostels will be given a monthly fee of Rs.1000. The Collegiate Education Director will provide the scholarship amount till the completion of the course.
The Paloli committee has recommended establishing coaching centers for Muslim students in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram to train them for competitive exams including those held by the Public Service Commission.
