Raipur : The reported huge turnout of youths and women Friday in the first phase of Chhattisgarh polls has worried the Congress more than the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Congress claimed youths and women voters have shown anger against the allegedly corrupt BJP government and voted in large numbers Friday, but party insiders admit “it can prove costly for the party”.

“It looks women and youth have shown anger against the Congress-led central government mainly for failing to check inflation,” a Congress leader said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raman Singh has claimed voters came out in large numbers from their houses to favour the BJP government.

“Reports coming in from various constituencies are very encouraging,” Singh told reporters.

Congress state working president Satynarayan Sharma said: “People have voted for a change, Congress is set to stage a comeback.”

The first phase polling in 39 seats out of 90 has recorded 55-60 percent polling.
