New Delhi : In the first visit by an Egyptian President to India in 25 years, Hosni Mubarak arrived here Sunday night on a three-day trip during which the two countries are expected to inject a new momentum in their bilateral ties, particularly in the trade and economic field.
A number of agreements, including an Extradition Treaty, are expected to be signed during the visit which is seen with much significance here.
Mubarak was warmly received by Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The Egyptian President will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on a wide-range of issues that will cover bilateral, regional and multilateral matters.
The two sides are expected to particularly focus on boosting their trade and economic ties and in this regard discuss the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The two leaders are expected to explore ways to enhance their cooperation in sectors like science and technology, space, IT and biotechnology.
Among the international issues, reform of the world bodies like the UN will be high on the agenda as both the countries are aspirants for permanent membership of the Security Council and are keen to coordinate their efforts.
Besides the Extradition treaty, a pact for visa exemption to officials and diplomats and an agreement in the field of space are also expected to be signed after the talks on Tuesday.
The two countries will also sign some MoUs in the field of trade and investment in various sectors like petrochemicals, plastic, automobiles and IT.
