New Delhi : One of them is a motivational speaker and author of self-help books, while the other is a women’s activist and spouse of a former vice-president.
But Shiv Khera and Suman Krishan Kant have one thing in common. Their newly-formed political parties are seeking to make their mark at the hustings for the first time, fielding nominees in the Delhi assembly elections.
Khera’s Bharatiya Rashtravadi Samanata Party (BRSP) has put up Nidhi Mahajan, a young software professional, as its candidate from Matiala constituency and is now planning to undertake an intense door-to-door campaign in the area.
“Our party was registered only in July this year. But within a few months, a large number of ex-servicemen, doctors, and other professionals have joined us,” Khera said.
The BRSP has come out with a 10-point agenda which includes eradication of corruption and poverty, fight against injustice, illiteracy and unemployment, ensuring equal opportunities for all and introducing a uniform civil code.
However, during campaigning in Matiala, the party will focus on basic issues like water and power, Khera, the author of best-seller self-help books like ‘You Can Win’, said.
But why people will vote for the nominee of an unknown party when major political parties are in the fray? “Because the public is fed up with corrupt system and the established parties. They want an alternative,” Khera said.
Providing an “alternative” is what Suman Krishan Kant also talks about.
The United Women’s Front, formed by the widow of former vice-president Krishan Kant earlier this year, has fielded eight candidates in the Delhi polls and is all hopeful of getting support from people who want a “change”.
