Kabul : The U.S. -led Coalition forces during multiple operations have killed five militants and detained14 suspects in war-torn Afghanistan, said Coalition statements released here on Tuesday.
Coalition forces on Tuesday tracked militants to a remote location about 75 kilometers northwest of Farah city in western Afghanistan where the militants were observed loading weapons into a vehicle from a weapons cache, the statement said.
Five militants were killed while Coalition called in air support with precision munitions, it added. “There were no civilians or man-made structures in the vicinity of the operation.”
During other operations on Monday, Coalition forces detained 14militants in eastern Afghanistan, the statement said.
Coalition forces detained six suspected militants during an operation to disrupt attacks against Afghan and Coalition forces in Tagab district of Kapisa province, it said. “The targeted militant is believed to be a Taliban commander who plans and conducts such nefarious activities.”
Moreover, Coalition forces, in another operation targeting a local Taliban commander believed to be in contact with senior Taliban commanders in the region, detained four insurgents following a search of a compound in Waghez district of Ghazni province.
Four other suspected militants were captured in Zurmat district of Paktya province during Coalition operation targeting Al-Qaida and Taliban associated individuals who are suspected of coordinating and aiding the movement of foreign fighters to carry out attacks, it added.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have killed over 5,000 people, mostly militants, so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan as Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify assaults against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter.
