Officials said the drive continued Wednesday despite the overnight protests against the demolition of a Sai Baba temple here.

People threw stones at the police who resorted to baton charge, injuring three protesters.

A “Mandir Bachao Sangharsh Samiti” had given a call for the Gandhinagar shutdown, which evoked a poor response.

The officials said there are nearly 300 temples built illegally on government lands.

Sunil Oza, a former legislator of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is now with MahaGujarat Janata Party (MJP), said: “Modi is a true successor of Mahmud Gazni, Babar and Aurangzeb.”

Over 200 temples have been destroyed in the last three days, Oza told IANS Wednesday.
