Previously open only to organisations based in Africa, the awards have now been extended to India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Pakistan, a press statement from the Stars said.

The awards are given in recognition of excellence achieved by organisations working for disadvantaged children in Africa and South Asia. The last date for the application is Nov 28, the statement said.

The awards, of which Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan is patron, use a range of selection criteria, which reflect the hallmarks of effective practice and demonstrate a positive impact on the lives of the children supported, the statement said.

Chief Executive of the Stars Foundation Muna Wehbe said: “The awards are a rare opportunity for organisations working with children to secure unrestricted funding as well as tailored consultancy support.”

The award offers the groups an opportunity to win $100,000.

The application forms can be downloaded from website www.starsfoundation.org.uk.

In 2007, organisations from Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa became the first ever recipients of the awards.
