21 CPI-M activists get life term for 2006 murder

Kolkata : A West Bengal district court Thursday sentenced 21 Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists to life imprisonment for murdering a fellow party worker in 2006.

The first track court at Arambag in Hoogly district convicted 21 CPI-M activists including a panchayat member Asgar Ali guilty of murdering Juhur Ali at Arambag’s Burundi village May 25, 2006.

The accused were found guilty under Sections 148, 149, 302 and 448 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and given life sentences. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs.25,000 on each of the accused.

Juhur Ali, also a CPI-M, worker, was dragged out of his house and lynched in public for protesting against alleged corruption within the party.
