Raipur : The Election Commission will lodge a police case against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh for airing a political message on a local FM radio channel, an official said Thursday soon after polling ended for state’s second and the final phase Thursday.
“An independent candidate, Virendra Pandey, complained to us about a political message aired by Chief Minister Raman Singh on Thursday, exhorting people to vote for a particular candidate,” the state’s chief election officer Alok Shukla told a press conference here.
“We investigated the complaint of Pandey and found (it to be) true and now decided to lodge a case against Raman Singh under section 126 of the Representation of People Act,” Shukla added.
At the end of polling, 65-68 percent of the 8.8 million electorate had voted to choose from among 687 candidates, said Shukla.
