“Of these one million units, 700,000 vehicles will roll out from Maruti’s Gurgaon factory and the rest from our Manesar plant,” Maruti Suzuki’s managing executive officer (production) M.M. Singh told reporters here Thursday at the launch of the company’s new model, A-star.

“Nine Maruti models are now being manufactured at the Gurgaon unit, which has three separate plants. The Manesar plant has a capacity to produce 240,000 units annually, which will go up to 300,000 by January 2009,” Singh said.

“Maruti’s next model Splash, which is yet to be launched, will roll out from the Gurgaon unit,” he added.

The A-star, too, is manufactured at the Manesar facility, and is targeted at the mid-sized or A2 category, where Maruti enjoys almost 55 percent market share.

“The segment contributes almost 70 percent of Maruti’s total volume of sales in the domestic Indian market,” Singh said, adding that the company also has an export target of 200,000 units per year by 2010.
