Delhi police received a call from Nangloi around 8.30 a.m. about two bodies lying under mud, when work began at the construction site.

“They were sleeping in the space between two metro pillars in Nangloi. The dumper accidentally dumped the mud on them and they were found dead Thursday morning,” a police official said.

“The bodies bore no external injury and a case of negligence was registered. Investigations are on and we are waiting for the autopsy report,” the official said.

The police were also trying to identify the victims and were waiting for the postmortem examination report to ascertain the cause of death.

According to DMRC, the dead people were not their construction workers and in any case, no construction work was going at the site where the incident took place.

“It was not an accident and DMRC was not involved. The construction had been completed and there are no barricades or other work going on in the area,” said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.

“In most probability, the two may have been dead prior to the incident. But that is subject to confirmation from the police who have taken over the case,” Dayal said.

“DMRC is tasked with planting shrubs and flowering plants in the area below the elevated section of the metro and for this dumpers were putting mud (loose earth) of 15 cm depth. This can hardly bury anyone,” Dayal said.
