The talks are being held for the first time in the changed political scenario in Pakistan after president Pervez Mushharaf stepped down earlier this year and a new political dispensation assumed charge.

The two-day talks start Tuesday. The previous round of talks was held July last year.

“The whole purpose of the talks is to see that there can be improvement in relations. There have been lots of developments inside Pakistan since the last round,” Gupta told reporters here.

He said that the talks would pertain to security matters, terrorism, drugs trafficking, exchange of prisoners and easing the visa regime.

Gupta paid obeisance at the Golden Temple, the Sikh holy shrine in Amritsar, Sunday evening.
