New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Tuesday asked Andhra Pradesh Governor N.D. Tiwari to appear before it Dec 16 after a man, who is grandson of a former union minister, claimed that he was his son.
Justice Reva Khetarpal said that Tiwari should appear before her in her chamber at 3 p.m.
The court refused to exempt Tiwari from personal appearance, saying that it was a family matter and he is not above the law.
The court passed the order on a suit filed by 29-year-old Rohit Shekhar, grandson of former union minister Sher Singh. Shekhar claimed he was born out of a relationship between Tiwari and his mother Ujjwala Singh who is also associated with Congress party.
The court admitted Shekhar’s petition in April and had sought a response from Tiwari.
The 85-year-old governor has rubbished the claim.
Advocate Subro Sanyal, appearing for Tiwari, objected to the governor being asked to appear in person.
Tiwari had also questioned the jurisdiction of the high court in entertaining the lawsuit as he was at present residing in Hyderabad and Shekhar was born in Lucknow.
