Pakistan, India in Home Secretary level talks

Islamabad : Pakistan and India, the two South Asian nuclear rivals, Tuesday began secretary level dialogue here with President Zardari’s proposal of a non- nuclear South Asian treaty and making the region an economic hub in the background.

It is the fifth round of Home Secretary level dialogue and the Indian side is being represented by the Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, while Secretary of Interior Syed Kamal Shah is representing Pakistan, said an official release.

The talks, said the release, seek to further efforts by both countries to discuss issues relating to terrorism, counterfeit currency, drug trafficking, exchange of prisoners, and visa regime.

These talks will be held in the backdrop of recently initiated cross Line of Control (LOC) trade which is a big step in bringing the two people closer.

The last Home Secretary level talks between the two countries were held in July last year in New Delhi.
