Indian Air Force helicopter crashes, one killed

Lucknow : An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter crashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district killing one crew while the other received serious injuries, the police said Wednesday.

“The mishap took place today (Wednesday) at around 12.30 p.m. in Oonchagaon village in Bareilly,” district police chief Vinod Kumar Singh told IANS on phone.

The injured crew has been admitted to the district hospital, he added.

According to the police, minutes before the incident, the chopper moved jerkily in the air and fell into the Ramganga river in the village. Bareilly is about 300 km from Lucknow.

“There were only two people, a pilot accompanied by a co-pilot, inside the chopper,” said Singh.

Air force officials have been informed, he added.
