The Spaniard was identified as Jose Cendon, while the name of the British journalist, who apparently works for London’s Daily Telegraph, is not yet known, according to the report Wednesday. Bosasso is the capital of the semi-autonomous Somali state of Puntland.

Spanish diplomats confirmed that Cendon was among the captives. They said Spain’s Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos has contacted the Spanish Embassy in Kenya as well as Puntland authorities to discuss the rescue of the hostages.

Cendon was honoured with the 2007 Oskar Barnack Leica Prize for his story “Fear in the Great Lakes”, that took him to psychiatric hospitals in Rwanda, Burundi and Congo.
