Mumbai : The officials of the Champions League 2020 Organising Committee were in a state of shock as they were in the hotels Taj Mahal Palace and Trident Oberoi which were seized by terrorists Wednesday night.
The Twenty20 showbiz event that was scheduled to Dec 3 had to be postponed as terrified officials narrated their experience of night-long horror at an emergency meeting of the Governing Council of the league here Thursday.
The security advisors and officials from South Africa, Australia, England and Pakistan were camping in both hotels and all hell broke loose when terrorists entered the skyscrapers hurling grenades.
The officials were safely evacuated from the building, but not before they had a brush with death.
Dean Kino, legal adviser to Cricket Australia, was lucky to escape unhurt as a grenade exploded near his room, sources told IANS.
“A shaken Kino gave graphic details of the dramatic events of the night at the meeting. Other officials, too, had similar stories to tell,” the source said.
Teams from Australia, South Africa, England and Pakistan along with hosts India were to take part in the inaugural edition of the showbiz event from Dec 3-10. Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai were the three venues.
