Talking to IRNA, Prof. Khurshid Ahmad advised the Iraqi Parliament to resist US pressure and not to pass a resolution that allows US to stay in Iraq for three more years.

The proposed US-Iraq pact has been approved by the Iraqi government but has not yet been ratified by the parliament. The proposed US-Iraq pact is in the Iraqi parliament for the approval.

Prof. Khurshid Ahmad said it is unfortunate that despite the promises the US is not withdrawing its forces from Iraq rather they want to extend their stay in Iraq till 2011.

He was of the view that Iraqi people are fully capable to run the affairs of their country on their own. They can decide abut their own future and who is America to interfere with the affairs of Iraqi people, said Prof. Khurshid.

According to an agreement US forces had to leave Iraq in 18 months but now they are asking to stay there for three more years which is highly condemnable, he added.

To a question. he said that despite the protest of Iraqi people the US will be able to get a resolution from the Parliament allowing the extension of their stay.

Prof. Khurshid viewed that Iraq is a country with a rich history and has been considered a great civilization so it does not need the help of the US to move forward.

Reacting on the role of the UN on the issue Prof. Khurshid said that the UN is not taking any step for the stability of Iraq rather it has become a silent spectator.

He added that the West has closed its eyes on the sheer violations of human rights in Iraq by the US forces.

All the factions of Iraqi society whether they are Arab, Kurd, Shia, Sunni, should sit together and devise a policy to secure the future of their country, he suggested.

He said that the American forces are responsible for the bloodshed in Iraq in which thousands of innocent people have been killed.
