Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada said the Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) will pull out from the war-ravaged country on completion of its five-year mission.

The government said the decision to withdraw its air defence force was taken in view of the improvement in the security situation in Iraq.

The ASDF, which engaged in airlifting troops and material for the US multinational forces in Iraq, continued its mission after the country’s Ground Self-Defense Force troops were withdrawn in 2006.
