New Delhi : Polls have opened in New Delhi for 10.7 million voters to choose the 70 members of the State Assembly amidst an avalanche of news over terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
Over 52,000 policemen and soldiers deployed in this major city with 16 million inhabitants are taking care of the electoral exercise in the National Capital, its official name.
A total of 10,993 electoral colleges opened their doors at 08:00 local hour but Prensa Latina managed to see that at least in three zones of Vasant Kunj few people attend the polls.
Indians have been focused on the last event in Mumbai where elite forces put an end to the siege on the Taj Mahal hotel.
Poll workers hope participation will increase after midday.
According to The Times in India the police elaborated a list of 1,000 criminals and many of them were put under preventive detention before elections.
