New Delhi: The general secretary of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh said the September 19 Batla House encounter was fake and a judicial enquiry should be constituted to bring out the truth.
Addressing a gathering today near Khalilullah Masjid, a few metres from House No. L-18 where shootout out took place, Amar Singh who was accompanied by party MP and former Bollywood actor Jaya Prada and other party leaders, condemned the killing and police-media campaign to tarnish the image of Azamgarh.
“Azamgarh has produced great sons like Major Usman and Kaifi Azmi and it has nothing to do with terrorism,” he said.
It was first time since the encounter that a top leader of Samajwadi Party whose stronghold is Uttar Pradesh (two slain terrorism suspects and the arrested ones are from Azamgarh, an eastern district of Uttar Pradesh), visited Jamia Nagar to express his sympathy with the families of those killed or arrested.
Lambasting the police action following blasts, Amar Singh said, “After every blast innocent Muslims are picked, some are killed and some others are projected as masterminds.”
Why after the killing of masterminds blasts took place in Malegaon, Modasa and other places, he asked.
On the announcement of legal aid by the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Mushirul Hasan, to the university students arrested in connection with the Delhi serial blasts, Amar Singh said the VC is legally right in his decision. He further said he is ready to bear all legal costs of the two students of the university arrested in the connection.
