Free the Children charity gets $1.9 mn donation in UAE

Dubai : The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) leading real estate developer Nakheel has donated seven million dirhams ($1.9 million) to children’s charity organisation Free the Children for water sanitation projects in developing countries.

Hollywood actor and Free the Children supporter Michael Douglas received the donation here from Nakheel’s director for sales and marketing Manal Shaheen, according to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Also present were Douglas’s wife and Hollywood actor Catherine Zeta-Jones and Free the Children founder Craig Krielburger.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Free the Children to help make this a reality for people living in harsh environments in the third world,” Shaheen said.

Over 200,000 people in countries like Kenya and Sri Lanka will benefit from the Nakheel donation.

Founded in 1995, Free the Children today has the largest network of children helping children through education, with more than one million people involved in education and development programmes in 45 countries.
