Mumbai : Maharashtra Governor S.C. Jamir will honour 10 elderly citizens from various parts of India for their contribution to society at the second annual Harmony Silver Awards here Tuesday.
Veteran actor Dev Anand and MP Priya Dutt along with Tina Ambani, chairperson of the Harmony for Silvers Foundation, will be present at the event to be held at the Ravindra Natya Mandir in Prabhadevi.
The award ceremony will have some of light moments with the elderly people performing a dance number choreographed by salsa dancer Sandip Soparrkar.
Introducing the award recipients to mediapersons Monday, Ambani said: “These elderly people whom we term as ‘Silver’ with a golden heart have proved to society that age cannot dampen anyone’s spirit to work for the betterment of the people and society.”
“They are all achievers and have contributed to society significantly in their own way, and it is for acknowledging their great efforts that we are honouring them with the awards,” she added.
Ambani said the jury selected the winners from among 100 elderly achievers who featured in the Harmony magazine over a period of one year.
The members of the jury are Justice Leila Seth, journalist Shekhar Gupta, MP Priya Dutt, actors Om Puri and Victor Banerjee.
The recipients are: Lakshman Singh (Rajasthan), Mandakini Dravid and Baba Adhav (Pune), Hardev Singh Sawhney (Delhi), Hasnath Mansur (Bengalore), Brother Brenden MacCarthaigh (Kolkata), Hirbaiben Lobi (Gujarat), Kambel Chulai (Meghalaya), Parthibhai Bhatol (Ahmedabad) and Subhasini Mistry (West Bengal).
