About 34 lakh villagers get employment under NREGS in MP

Bhopal: Till the month of August during the current fiscal, employment has been provided to 33.83 lakh villagers in Madhya Pradesh under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, (NREGS).

During this period, the state has received Central government’s share of Rs. 1930.39 crore. These funds are provided directly to districts. The state government has also made available its share to the tune of 211.66 crore under the scheme to Panchayats. Out of this, Rs 1833.99 crore have already been spent.

It may be mentioned here that funds are alloted under NREGS on the basis of works. Under the scheme, so far 1466 lakh mandays employment has been generated during the period under review.

As many as 83,000 works have been completed in Madhya Pradesh under NREGS during this period while 2.82 lakh works are under progress.

Under the scheme, works relating to water conservation and augmentation, afforestation and tree plantation in order to prevent drought; construction of canals, small and medium irrigation works, to provide irrigation facility to SC and ST families on the land under their possession, renovation of conventional water structures, de-silting of ponds, land development, road linkage with all weather roads, flood control etc. are undertaken.
