New Delhi : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expects to visit India, a country that hopes to be a permanent member of the Security Council by late this month, The Times of India newspaper reported Tuesday.
Michele Montas, spokeswoman of the UN Secretariat, said Ki-moon would make a stopover in New Delhi, as part of a tour that would also take him to the Philippines and Bangladesh. Ki-moon will also attend a conference on migration in Manila starting October 27 through 30, as well as visit India, said Montas, who stated that the exact days of his stay in New Delhi would be specified later.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met with Ki-moon by late September during his visit to New York, to attend the UN General Assembly.
Both figures discussed a wide range of issues, particularly the bill of reforms to the UN Security Council.
India aims to be a permanent member of that body, and expects to negotiate the reform bill in early 2009.
