Bangalore : Zaheer Khan struck in the last over even as Ricky Ponting’s gritty ton lifted Australia to 254 for four at stumps on Day One of the first cricket Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here Thursday.
Ponting belted 123, his first century in India, while Simon Katich added 66 after Australia, opting to take first strike, lost Matthew Hayden in the first over of the morning off Zaheer (2-39).
Michael Hussey (46 batting) and Michael Clarke (11) were negotiating the last over from Zaheer when Clarke was trapped lbw to the left-arm pacer off the second ball and stumps were called.
