By IANS,

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party’s senior leader L.K. Advani Friday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to reiterate India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan following President Asif Ali Zardari’s retraction of his statement on terrorism in the state.

“I demand the government of India unequivocally reiterate India’s position and make it clear that any deviation from this will be unacceptable to the people of this country,” Advani wrote.

Zardari, in an interview to the Wall Street Journal, had termed the militants in Jammu and Kashmir as terrorists, when successive Pakistani presidents have been describing them as freedom fighters.

Later, due to pressure at home, Pakistan’s information ministry issued a statement stating: “The president has made it very clear that the just cause of Kashmir and its struggle for self-determination has been a consistent central position of the PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) for the last forty years. There is no change in that policy.”
