Tehran : Iranian Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Saturday that Iran doesn’t think nuclear negotiations with the West have reached a standstill and an appropriate solution is still possible if the West would alter some of its behaviors, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Larijani made the comment in a meeting with a French parliamentary delegation after the issuance of the 4th UN Security Council resolution against Iran.
Some of the West’s behavior towards Iran is illogical and hasty, Larijani said, adding that “modification of the West’s illogical behavior can in addition to improving the two sides’ relations lead to solving the existing misinterpretations.”
“Despite the existence of certain differences of opinion, there are lots of common grounds for cooperation between Iran and France, which keeping in mind the shared interests in economic and regional fields, the two sides can enter transparent talks on them,” Larijani said.
Iran’s Parliament has a positive viewpoint regarding expansion of relations with France, he said, adding that “the two countries’ parliaments can play an important role in improvement of comprehensive bilateral ties.”
Referring to Iran’s nuclear program, the head of the French parliamentary delegation Jeans Louise Pianco said that “the current situation is not to the benefit of either side and the European Union favors continuation of negotiations with Iran, aimed at a problem solving.”
He said Iran is the region’s “only big power” with a noticeable influence at the international scene, adding that “Iran can contribute greatly to the establishment of peace and stability in the region, particularly in Iraq and in Afghanistan.”
On June 14, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana handed an offer of incentives to the Iranian authorities on behalf of the six world powers during his visit to Tehran in a bid to persuade Iran to halt uranium enrichment.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said recently that Iran is working with Solana for further talks on the country’s nuclear program.
Recently, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1835 to reaffirm its previous resolutions on Iran and demand full compliance from the Islamic Republic.
It called on Iran, which till now has been under three UN sanctions over its disputed nuclear program, “to comply fully and without delay with its obligations” and to meet the requirements of the IAEA Board of Governors, but without new sanctions.
