Lahore, Pakistan : Prime Minister’s Advisor on Interior, Rehman Malik said that government has put in place effective measures to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan.
He stated this while addressing a seminar on “The prevailing situation of country: Role and responsabilities of our educational institutions” held under the aegis of Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society at a local hotel on Saturday.
Malik said they had inhereted from the past government, the jeopardised economy, poor law and order, and lack of good governance, while the suicide bombing were also on the rise.
“We have tried not to repeat the mistakes committed by the previous government and introduced qualitative intelligence, besides enhancing the law enforcement mechanism,” he added.
Advisor on Interior said that now 14 suicide bombers were in custody of law enforcement agencies just because of viable and well-conceived policies of the government in this regard.
Government has bifurcated two zones with regards to cope with terrorism, he said and added that zone ‘A’ comprises Punjab and Sindh, while ‘B’ has Balochistan and NWFP especially FATA.
Rehman Malik said that Prime Minister had announced three-pronged policy (3-D i.e. Dialogue, Development and Deterrence) in tribal areas so as to eliminate terrorism throughout the country.
He further said the government had used force against the terrorists when they crossed the limits and challenged law of the land. It is good omen, he said, now the entire nation is united to fight against the terrorist elements.
On behalf of government and the nation, Rehman Malik also paid rich tributes to the valiant chieftains and tribal people, who are fighting against the terrorists and assured them of government’s support in this sacred cause.
Rehman Malik reiterated that operation would continue till the last terrorist is eliminated from the country.
He highlighted the importance of educational institutions with regards to policy making to get rid of any crisis.
In Pakistan, he said, when we talk about educational institutions, we often ignore potential of our institutions, professors and students.
Rehman Malik observed, “We cannot progress and achieve our developmental goals until and unless we ensure respect and dignity of teachers and educational institutions.”
Earlier, Rehman Malik read out a message of President Asif Ali Zardari, in which he (Zardari) paid rich homage to the great journalistic services of Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman.
In the message, the President also appealed to the people of Pakistan to extend their full support to the government in its efforts for elimination of terrorism.
Zardari also emphasized upon the educational institutions to play their effective role in fighting terrorism and extremism. On behalf of the President, all the participants of the seminar offered fateha for all those people who had lost their lives in the suicide attacks.
